Peranakan Jewellery Container
This Jewellery container inspired by the Peranakan culture represents expectations and preciousness.
It is designed to present dowry from a loving mother to her daughter, whom is getting married to remind her of her duties and expectations of a Peranakan women as she soon becomes a daughter-in-law.
The presentation and exchange of the gifts in Peranakan culture were meticulously arranged. Therefore I designed this Jewellery container to enhance the presentation of the dowry just like how Peranakan would appreciate it.
Secret Compartment
The design has a secret compartment inside and is unique and precious as it is meant only for the knowledge of the owner of the jewellery container.
Therefore the secret compartment is meant for more precious jewellery such as heirloom to be placed in. When a mother present the dowry to the daughter, placing it in the secret compartment enhance the preciousness of the gift. This therefore also represents the amount of care and concern for the daughter who is getting married.
Design & Material
Phoenix and Peony are chosen because Phoenix represents prosperity and Peony represents spring flower. When they are placed together, they represents marriage and prosperity.
The materials chosen were Porcelain for the outer container and Gold for the secret container. This is becuase gold is considered a very ausipicious colour in Peranakan culture.
