Cosmetics are products that are so aesthetically beautiful but at the same time also so fragile. The beauty industry have a serious issue of overpackaging. Desperately trying to protect their products with bubble wraps, fillers and boxes etc hoping that it reaches the client's doorsteps in one piece. But what about the daily travelling and care for the products? We can’t expect users to always bubble wrap their beautiful cosmetics products like it is a parcel..

Looking into cosmetics, shattering is a common occurrence, thus I saw it as an opportunity, how can this shattering process that is deemed as devastating and upsetting, be an opportunity for a positive desirable product experience.

CO is a collaboration of the cosmetic with the user.

As you travel around daily with CO in your carrier, the interactions of CO and other items in your carrier allows the underlying layers of colors to gradually reveal itself, being an ongoing process of giving identity to each piece of cosmetic that would be unique to the user.

Thus it takes on a form that affords instability, is never still, suggesting movements which is a catalyst to the evolution of the cosmetic.

It is a cosmetic packaging that through travelling will result in an evolution to its properties and values.

The packaging design of CO allows the pressed powder to be eroded by the powder puff through travelling and movement. Resulting in the eroded powder to pass through the sift to become loose powder that can be accessed from another opening on the opposite side.

Biomimicry Process

Biomimicry is the examination of nature, its models, systems, processes, and elements to emulate or take inspiration from in order to solve human problems.

Taking on an original methodology, step by step, addressing the notion of biomimicry in a new and creative way. From a natural item that will be considered as a product in itself, we will study each of the significant aspects (technic, aesthetic, semantic and cultural) and then apply these genes as specifications to design a manufactured object. In this way, all the facets of this product will be developed in coherence with the source of inspiration, as a filiation, as a diversified production from a supposed mother company.

1. Protection of Core

Coconut | Protection of embryo with the hard shell of a coconut.
CO | Form of CO.

This inspired CO, a cosmetic taking on a form that affords instability, is never still, suggesting movements which is a catalyst to the evolution of the cosmetic.

2. Evolution of Coconut

Coconut | Coconut water converts to coconut meat as it get "older”.
CO | Pressed powder converts to loose powder.

This inspired the evolution of a cosmetics properties and values.

3. Travel without Protection

Coconut | The natural dispersal of coconuts creates marks unique to each coconut.
CO | Daily travels creates marks and identity unique to each user.

Thus CO is a collaboration of the cosmetic with the user.
